Abstract
Diabetes can be a difficult and burdensome disease, and feelings of distress are common among patients. The constant stress and frustration of diabetes management can lead to "diabetes burnout". Many patients may feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or defeated by diabetes, and may become preoccupied or worried by the fear of complications. As a result, patients may feel unmotivated to adhere to the regimen required for diabetes care. Chronically elevated blood glucose levels may result if appropriate diabetes self-management cannot be achieved or maintained. Therefore, proper identification and treatment of diabetes burnout is a very important aspect of diabetes management.
