Abstract
Diabetic muscle infarction (DMI) is a rare condition that usually occurs in diabetic patients who have longstanding microvascular complication. The typical clinical presentation is a painful swelling with an abrupt onset in the lower limbs, particularly in the thighs. Its diagnosis is frequently missed, but it can be confirmed by clinical presentation and hyper-intense signals in T2 weighted MRI images. The treatment consists of bed rest, analgesics, and physical therapy. More than 100 cases have been reported since 1965, but there have been no report of case involving the buttocks. This report presents a 63 year-old woman with diffuse DMI involving buttocks and both thighs with review of literature.
